About Me

Welcome!

My name is Lana McAleer and I am a psychologist in Saskatoon. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan, specifically a tiny town called Lashburn, right by the Alberta border. I initially came to Saskatoon to attend the U of S and ended up falling in love with the city and decided to make it my home. I love getting out and going for walks and bike rides by the river in my free-time.

Why I Became a Psychologist

It may sound cheesy, but ever since I was a young child, I wanted to give back and help others. I've always enjoyed the feeling of being compassionate towards others and making someone else's day better. Initially, I was unsure which career would offer this and be the best fit for me. After taking my first university level psychology course I was hooked! Exploring how individuals have been shaped by their biology and experiences is fascinating, as it really shows how each individual is unique. I also found it helped me to understand my own experiences with anxiety and depression better as well.

After I obtained my bachelor's of psychology from the U of S in 2019, I knew that I wanted to become a psychologist. So I applied and was accepted into the Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology program at the U of A in Edmonton, AB in 2020. That's right, I did my masters during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it created extra challenges having to do a larger portion of the degree virtually, I am so thankful for being able to complete it, and become a psychologist.
